About us

St.Xavier's is a Higher Secondary School for boys and girls managed by the Xavier Education Society and recognized by the Department of Education, Gujarat State. Though a Catholic Institution, it welcomes pupils of all castes and creeds and prepares them for the Secondary and Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination. It comprises the K.G. and Std. I - XII with parallel divisions having Gujarati and English as the medium of instruction. Those who study through Gujarati Medium have English as an additional subject. This School aims not merely at preparing its pupils to qualify for the Secondary or Higher Secondary School Certificate but also to develop their character and personality through graded responsibility, personal guidance and social awareness.

When we closely look at the recent history of the world, one begins to realize that human life in general is becoming more frustrating and complex day by day. It is mainly because of the fast changing socio-economic-cultural realities of the world. People have become more self-centered, egoistic, intolerant, corrupt, suspicious, hedonistic, etc. People seem to draw their identity from 'what they have' rather than from 'what they are'. In the process, they begin to compromise with life principles, moral and religious values and thus have reduced the human person to a commodity.

If we believe and accept that education is a formative process by which we prepare children to face life as it comes, then we have to seriously look in to the whole existential educational scenario of the country. It is disheartening to see that schools have become educational shops. Higher the fees better the education seems to be the slogan of the day. Subject-oriented approach has taken precedence over student-oriented approach in almost all schools. We firmly believe that here is where schools like St. Xavier's can make a difference by imparting value based education which promotes life and upholds human dignity. It is not going to be easy as it has been in the past. It will continue to be a challenge to all of us.

We wish and pray that the students of St. Xavier's imbibe some of the basic human values like love, compassion, hope, peace and faith through the curricular and co-curricular activities of the school and thus become Heralds of Good News in this world. May the Author of Life continue to accompany us in our journey and help us in all our deliberations during this academic year.

Admissions & Withdrawals

Admission to this School is restricted by certain Government regulations and by conditions of age, ability and conduct. Applications for admission will be examined and put in the Class for which they are found fit.
The age for admission to Jr.K.G. is three years and to Std. 1st is between the ages of 5 and 6 with a corresponding increase for the higher classes. The school year begins in June.
No admission is complete until the Leaving Certificate from the last recognized school attended is produced countersigned by the Educational Inspector of that State, if the pupil comes from another State. For fresh admissions, a Birth Certificate signed by the parent or guardian, is required.
The Principal reserves the right to refuse any application without having to assign reasons for his action.
No Leaving Certificate will be issued unless applied for by the Parents or Guardian in person or in writing, and after all dues have been paid, Library Books and Sport's uniforms returned. Fees are due so long as no notice of withdrawal is given. If a Leaving Certificate is not asked for within two years, a fee of Rs.50/- is charged for the same as for a duplicate certificate. For a duplicate certificate an affidavit is necessary. With this end in view and guided by the principles of the Catholic Code of Education, the school makes a careful selection of the pupils who apply, and demands high standards in ideals and attainments. The Catholic Educators consider it their duty to show due respect to the religious feelings and the freedom of conscience of their non-catholic pupils. However, external worship other than Catholic is not allowed on the school premises. Catholic students are given a solid course of religious instruction. Non-Catholics are taught Moral Science, a course in their fundamental duties to God, to their fellowmen and to self.
Pupils failing to pass each standard may be asked to leave the school when the Principal judges it as a sign of incapacity to cope with the standard required by the School. Pupils failing twice in the same standard or thrice in different standards must discontinue their studies in this school.
Irregular attendance, habitual idleness, disobedience or defiance of authority, or conduct injurious to the moral tone of the school are sufficient reasons for the dismissal of a student.
Pupils are responsible to the school authorities for their conduct both in and outside the school. Hence, misbehaviour in public streets and conveyances is liable to the same sanction.

Promotions

For the purpose of promoting a student to a higher standard, the year's record of work will be taken in to account along with the marks of the Annual Examination.
The year's work consists of the unit test & the terminal exam. The day to day written work, including composition, home work and daily lessons. The individual traits of character, such as good conduct, regularity and responsibility, sense of co-operation, sociability, etc.
If a pupil is not able to appear for the whole or part of an examination, due to valid reason, such a case will be considered on the strength of his/her year's record.
All case of doubt regarding promotions are left entirely to the discretion of the principal and his decision shall be final.
Promotions refused will not be reconsidered.

Rules for the Conduct of Examination - Instructions for Students

Before answering the questions enter your name, number, standard, division, subject and date, correctly.
Attend carefully to any general instruction that may be given at the head of the question paper.
Remember that neatness, handwriting and spelling will be taken into account in every subject.
Read the questions very carefully for five minutes. A great deal of time is wasted in writing down information that is not wanted and no marks are given for it.
Any misprint/incomplete question due to printing lapses must be reported to the invigilator immediately.
Write on both sides of the paper and number the pages. Number your answer as per question paper.
Revise your answer papers before submitting them. Students very often fail to check their answers which results in a loss of marks.
No pupils should have in his possession in the Examination hall, any book, memorandum or notes. Any one found cheating in the Examination will be instantly reported and expelled.
Never omit the lesson or home-work assigned to you. It is like missing a train that you may never catch afterwards.
Always revise the work done in class.
If memory work is assigned, learn it overnight and writing work assigned for the next day.
Always take down in your Hand Book the reading, learning and writing work assigned for the next day.
As you grow up, make a daily time table for yourself. In this way you will learn to be a pupil of regular habits, a most valuable asset in later life.
Repeat at the end of the week all that has been learnt during the week.

Rules of Discipline

Refinement of manners, habits of obedience and order, neatness in person and dress, and punctuality are required at all times.
During working hours, order and silence are to be kept while around the premises. Running, playing or shouting inside the school building is never allowed.
Books, newspaper and other periodicals must not be brought to the School without the previous sanction of the Principal. This applies to radio transistors and mobiles also.
Gathering of signatures to bring pressure on the authorities is strictly prohibited. Previous sanction of the principal is needed for any organized school activity.
The School is not responsible for lost books, money, clothes etc. Pupils must look after their own things. It is not advisable for them to bring valuable articles to school.
Any kind of damage done on the school premises is to be made good.
Parents should see that their wards attend the school and the school functions in the prescribed uniform i.e.
Boys : Boys must wear white shirt with the school badge in the top right corner of the pocket, biscuit coloured pants, black shoes and white socks. White sleeveless banyan and underwear are compulsory for all the boys.
Girls : Girls must wear white blouse, biscuit coloured skirts/pinafore with the school badge, skin coloured tights, black shoes, white socks. Hair should be plaited up and tied with red ribbons. Mehendi, nail polish and ornaments must be strictly avoided.
All the Students must wear the ID card in Winter MAROON coloured Sweater. Jackets are not allowed.
Students without uniform are not allowed in the classroom. They are liable to be sent home, in which case the school disclaims all responsibility. Students without a calendar are liable to the same penalty.

Attendance and Leave

Regular attendance is an important element for successful work. For serious reasons however, a brief written application must be made in advance in the space provided for the same in the calendar on page-94. In case of sickness or other unforeseen circumstances the pupil on returning to school, must have, the reason of absence briefly written in the space provided for ABSENCE RECORD (Page-92 of School Calendar). This should be duly signed by the parents or guardian and countersigned by the principal/Vice-Principal before the pupil enters the class.
Attendance is compulsory for students of std v to XII on independence day, Republic Day Annual Sports Day. Absence without leave is penalised with a fine or with any other form of punishment at the Principal's discretion, and if a pupil is absent for 15 days without leaves his/her name may be removed from the class-rolls; and the usual admission fee will be charged if he/she is readmitted.
No. pupil may absent himself from any examination or test except when prevented by reasons of health in which case a medical certificate is required.

Parental Cooperation

Parents will readily understand that a good amount of study and serious home study is required for success, so they will see that at least four hours of study are put in by the pupils of Std. VII-XII and an hour less for the students of lower classes.
Private Tuitions are discouraged and should be resorted to only after consulting the Principal. No teacher will be allowed to tutor her or his own students, nor students of standards or classes where she or he teaches.
Report of a pupil's conduct and progress will be given from time to time in the school calendar. Parents are expected to sign and take note of these reports as also of the Examination results and to confer with the teachers and the principal occasionally. The staff should be met only on the second and fourth Saturdays of a month between 9-00 am and 12.00 noon.
When Parents inquire or write concerning their wards they should mention the standard and particular section in which they study at present.

School Awards

Prizes and Scholarships will be awarded to Meritorious Students.
If a student heads the list for two prizes, he will receive the better one, and the student next in merit will receive the other. In the case of a tie, the prize will be given to the student securing highest aggregate marks.
Absence from either the examinations or the tests debars a student from obtaining a prize.
Regular attendance, good conduct and application up to the end of the academic year are indispensable conditions for any prize.
Prize-winners failing to be present at the Prize Distribution forfeit their prizes.
Unless stated otherwise, a student is eligible for a prize only if he passes in all the subjects in the final results, gets a grand total of no less than two thirds of the marks obtainable and continues his studies in the School.

School Organizations

The extra-curricular activities are introduced to help the students develop those key qualities that go to make him or her a cultured person, a refined individual and a great leader.

The Students' Council is an organization of the best behaved and capable leaders chosen by the students and entrusted with the order and discipline of the school, and other activities.
Gujarati, Hindi, English and Sanskrit Literary Societies foster the student's love and appreciation of good literature by means of study circles, elocution and dramas.

The Science Club fosters in the students a spirit of enterprise and of reach through love of nature, inventions and discoveries. Visual Instruction gives the students scope for widening their General Knowledge and for keeping in touch with modern developments.

St. Xavier's Gymkhana organizes games and sports in the School. Besides the weekly games' periods it also organizes the inter-class, inter-den and inter-school sports activities. The Annual School Sports Meet crowns the Year's activities.

Xavier Computer Center imparts to the students basic knowledge of Computer Programming.

"Skills for Adolescence" gives the students of the Secondary and Higher Secondary the guidance and knowledge to face the various problems of adolescent years.

The School Library and Reading Room fosters among the students the habit of reading by providing them with a well selected collection of books and periodicals on a wide range of subjects and interests.

School Tours to places of historical or national interest are conducted regularly by the school during the Diwali and Summer Holidays.

School Picnics

May be had once a year. A morning time class day may be used for these. Lower standards, however, may use even an ordinary class day.
It is a class activity hence all must attend.
The class teacher or a substitute attends the Picnic. Other teachers may attend, if the picnic is not on a class day.
Swimming permits from parents/guardians are required in writing for each swimmer, each time.
All picnics and outings require the Principal's sanction.
